The Art of Pigsticking 510

I honestly do not care if David Cameron stuck it in a pig, though it is a stark reminder the ruling class are very different to us. But what is disgusting is the attack on the vulnerable, poor and disadvantaged which he is leading now.

Our Transatlantic Friend informs us that

“In 1974, the plot by U.S. and British intelligence to bring down the government of Gough Whitlam in Australia may well have been in progress, as was revealed by Christopher Boyce. It certainly succeeded in 1975, when Governor General Kerr, whom CIA cables called “our man,” dismissed Whitlam in a constitutionally very dubious action.”

Could that by any chance be the same Christopher Boyce of whom Wikipedia writes:

.Boyce claims that he began getting misrouted cables from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) discussing the agency’s desire to depose the government of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam in Australia. Boyce claimed the CIA wanted Whitlam removed from office because he wanted to close U.S. military bases in Australia, including the vital Pine Gap secure communications facility, and withdraw Australian troops from Vietnam. For these reasons some claim that U.S. government pressure was a major factor in the dismissal of Whitlam as prime minister by the governor general, Sir John Kerr, who according to Boyce, was referred to as our man Kerr by CIA officers”?

“Oh, give it a rest, that’s been around for decades.

Lady Falkender, a newspaper proprietor displaying the same signs of impending lunacy as his illustrious uncles and a Louis Mountbatten who listened without losing his rag for about two hours.

A military/secret services coup, did someone say?”

Habby, I’d expect it to be around for decades, it happened decades ago…duh.

Oh I don’t know it sound pretty authentic to me and to others I suppose, reading it for the first time, and with this new threat from the army to overthrow a Corbyn government, it just adds gravitas to the Wilson story.

Your weak attempt to palm off the event using the “lunacy” trick, won’t work old boy.

Obviously Boyce had access to high classified communications, or he would never have been prosecuted, or pursued with such diligence after he escaped from jail.

  • Republicofscotland

More on the failed coup d’etat of Wilson.

Naturally, because of the furore aroused, all the parties to the plot have. attempted to deny the facts. Wilson, who would have been asked for an explanation in the labour movement, first kept quiet about it and then later attempted to deny what happened.

But Zuckerman let the cat out of the bag when he confirmed that he made the statement attributed to him by Cudlipp. A mere tête-à-tête among friends would not have provoked such an outburst.

Just like Lt-Col Tejero’s attempted coup d’etat in Spain on 23 February 1981, which despite its serious character had aspects of comic opera about it, so the lunatic attitude of these gentlemen in suggesting a coup in Britain.

At that time, is an indication of the lengths that the ruling class will be prepared to go to under difficult and serious conditions.

“And 1974 was the very year when a military/intel conspiracy brought down the president of the United States, Richard Nixon.”

Our Transatlantic Friend could save himself and the rest of us a lot of reading and writing time if he were to post on here – only once – a sort of personal “Credo”.

I would suggest that it could economically read something along the following lines:

“Every significant political, economic and security event which occurred in the United States since 1945 was brought about by a conspiracy involving the US military and security services (mention of the FBI and The Plutocrats facultative)”

If our Transatlantic Friend wanted to write something a little longer he could append a comprehensive list of those events.

So it looks as if the “lengths” were in fact rather short.

” . . . and which country and political system were being described?”

I apply it to all countries. But yesterday I went to church (not for the first time). Most religions have peace at their centre. Likewise there was a message, absolute wisdom from the book of James which I can share with you good people. If any of you can interrupt his unsavoury behaviour and get it into the ear of David Cameron, or any other world leader, God bless you.

“Where do these wars and battles between yourselves first start? Isn’t it precisely in the desires fighting inside your own selves? You want something and you haven’t got it; so you are prepared to kill. You have an ambition that you cannot satisfy; so you fight to get your way by force. . .”

Well, I was referring to King’s uncles Viscounts Rothermere and Northcliffe, who ended up mad. And there were many – including Private Eye at the time – who saw in Cecil King signs of a hereditary condition.

PS – you wouldn’t be related in some way, I suppose?

That’s strange – most people appear to believe it describes Soviet Russia and the Bolshevik revolution. Orwell himself certainly did.

Heard of that by any chance, Mr Goss?

My point was that similar events involving U.S. and British intelligence and the removal of constitutionally elected leaders were occurring right around the time the plot against Wilson allegedly happened.

Of course, it’s all relevant, what with generals now proposing (not just thinking) that if Corbyn becomes PM, a military coup, would be inevitable.

More on the plot to oust Wilson.

According to the Sunday Times one major-general and a number of military men were involved, and as the paper comments, “None was subsequently charged, none of the military men involved in the plot was disciplined.” When Callaghan, who was then the Home Secretary, was asked by reporters, he refused to make any comment on the allegations. This indicates that the allegations are correct.

Had a grouping of ordinary working-class privates conspired against the government of the day they would have been disciplined, and possibly even sentenced to long terms of imprisonment— whereas these military gentlemen were not even charged.

    *********************

You can clearly see the relevance with generals of old to the general of today, who’s thoughts centre around a similar action. No action was taken back then against the military men, and as far as I know no action has been taken against, the seditious comments of the as yet anonymous general.

  • John Goss

“That’s strange – most people appear to believe it describes Soviet Russia and the Bolshevik revolution. Orwell himself certainly did.”

Now, now, Noddy. You would not have known about that but for reading my comments here. When you read it, or re-read it, you will understand that it is the way all animals at the top of the various political pyramids behave. Orwell did at least believe that the Soviet Union set out with the best of intentions, Snowball for example. It was the bad pigs that took control, as they always seem to do.

Now about the message opposing the desire for war within yourselves to get something you haven’t got. Any comment? Think about Israel, the US, NATO countries. I know I shouldn’t have to give you a clue.

George Orwell to Dwight Macdonald, December 1946:

“Re. your query about Animal Farm. Of course I intended it primarily as a satire on the Russian revolution. But I did mean it to have a wider application in so much that I meant that that kind of revolution (violent conspiratorial revolution, led by unconsciously power-hungry people) can only lead to a change of masters. I meant the moral to be that revolutions only effect a radical improvement when the masses are alert and know how to chuck out their leaders as soon as the latter have done their job. The turning-point of the story was supposed to be when the pigs kept the milk and apples for themselves (Kronstadt).1 If the other animals had had the sense to put their foot down then, it would have been all right. If people think I am defending the status quo, that is, I think, because they have grown pessimistic and assume that there is no alternative except dictatorship or laissez-faire capitalism. In the case of Trotskyists, there is the added complication that they feel responsible for events in the USSR up to about 1926 and have to assume that a sudden degeneration took place about that date. Whereas I think the whole process was foreseeable—and was foreseen by a few people, eg. Bertrand Russell—from the very nature of the Bolshevik party. What I was trying to say was, “You can’t have a revolution unless you make it for yourself; there is no such thing as a benevolent dictatorship.”

Komodo you’re a vindictive little shit.

Moi? If so, I am merely mirroring the establishment’s treatment of Corbyn last week. What thin skins you establishment apologists do have.”

It is time for me to expose you as the twisted, lying little turd that you are.

You have alleged that I am a ‘resident zionist’ and now an ‘establishment apologist’.

For all the links you provide pithily sitting here all day long, morning to night’, providing us with your ‘research’, back up your statements with a shred of evidence.

I can see very well why you avoid Habbabkuk, because you are a pseudo-google-intellectual with a chip on your shoulder, constantly swatting here to self-promote. But your inability and unwillingness to engage with the intellectual firepower of Habbabkuk, shows you up as a distinct coward.

The only natural conversation you can have is on bikes with Nevermind.

Readers should know what your real vaue is.

If I have misunderstood you, I stand to be corrected.

In the meantime, don’t equate your slithery self with Jeremy Corbyn; more likely Cameron’s pink condom.

  • Habbbakuk (combat cant)

Those commenters (you know who you are) who wrongly allege that PM Gough Whitlam (Labour Party) was “unconstitutionally” removed from office by Governor-General Sir John Kerr in 1974 usually (and curiously)omit to record that Gough Whitlam and the Labour Party suffered landslide defeats at the hands of Malcolm Fraser and his Liberal Party in the subsequent 1976 and 1977 general elections.

So it would appear that the Governor-General’s action was overwhelmingly endorsed by the Australian electorate.

    +++++++++++++

Footnote for our constitutional experts: Australian PMs are not “constitutionally elected”, they are constitutionally appointed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II acting through the Governor=General.

Not sure where all the alleged 70’s coup plot posts coming from but it would be interesting to learn more about the LWT 70’s series of a post coup England an the underground Quarmby. Why was it made, how was it received at the time, why was it not repeated, was it too close to the bone, or just not v popular?

Regarding the failed Wilson coup, and the marginalising of todays unions by the government.

A historian wrote about the Kapp putsch, when the military attempted to seize power in Germany in 1920.

The reply of the workers was a general strike which paralysed the government. Even the civil servants participated. Nothing moved, there were no communications and the government did not even have a typist or clerk.

The army generals were compelled to march out of Berlin and hand power back to the Social Democratic government. This douche of cold water put a stop to the talk of a coup at that particular time.

    ************************

Abkve is a good reason why strong unions are an essential part of Britain today, Cameron & Co seek to diminish the power of the workforces voice.

A military coup in Britain in say 2020 if Corbyn becomes PM, could possibly be negated as long as the unions remain strong.

  • lysias

1920 and 1933 differed in Germany because, in 1933, the extent of unemployment in the country greatly weakened the unions, as employers had the reserve army of the unemployed that they could use in the event of strikes.

Also, Hitler’s coming to power in 1933, unlike the Kapp Putsch, was in its outward form legal.

The Reichstag Fire had an effect on public opinion similar to that of 9/11. The middle class in Germany genuinely believed there was a Communist plot to seize power.

Consequently, the unions never properly organized resistance to the takeover by the National Government, which quickly turned into the Nazi dictatorship.

“The Guardians” was produced by London Weekend Television and not the BBC. I suspect the reason why it only went to one 13-episode series was simply that it was never intended to go further; the producer and writers were probably just less inventive and talented than those behind Borgen and House of Cards and in any event a dystopian tale is perhaps harder to sustain for too long.
