Given the disgraceful Sun front page and middle spread urging war on Syria, and the all-out propaganda on Sky News, it is important to understand why Murdoch is pushing so hard for war. I therefore reproduce my article from February 2013. It is important to note that the links are to industry publications: this is very genuine, hard information.
Israel Grants Oil Rights in Syria to Murdoch and Rothschild
Israel has granted oil exploration rights inside Syria, in the occupied Golan Heights, to Genie Energy. Major shareholders of Genie Energy – which also has interests in shale gas in the United States and shale oil in Israel – include Rupert Murdoch and Lord Jacob Rothschild. Claude Pupkin, CEO of Genie Oil and Gas, commented, “Genie’s success will ultimately depend, in part, on access to the expertise of the oil and gas industry and to the financial markets. “I am grateful to Howard Jonas and IDT for the opportunity to invest in this important initiative,” Lord Rothschild said. “Rupert Murdoch’s extraordinary achievements speak for themselves and we are very pleased he has agreed to be our partner. Genie Energy is making good technological progress to tap the world’s substantial oil shale deposits which could transform the future prospects of Israel, the Middle East and our allies around the world.”
For Israel to seek to exploit mineral reserves in the occupied Golan Heights is plainly illegal in international law. Japan was succesfully sued by Singapore before the International Court of Justice for exploitation of Singapore’s oil resources during the second world war. The argument has been made in international law that an occupying power is entitled to opeate oil wells which were previously functioning and operated by the sovereign power, in whose position the occupying power now stands. But there is absolutely no disagreement in the authorities and case law that the drilling of new wells – let alone fracking – by an occupying power is illegal.
Israel tried to make the same move twenty years ago but was forced to back down after a strong reaction from the Syrian government, which gained diplomatic support from the United States. Israel is now seeking to take advantage of the weakened Syrian state; this move perhaps casts a new light on recent Israeli bombings in Syria.
In a rational world, the involvement of Rothschild and Murdoch in this international criminal activity would show them not to be fit and proper persons to hold major commercial interests elsewhere, and action would be taken. Naturally, nothing of the kind will happen.

According to UNSC Resolution number 497 [December 1981] Inter Alia.1/ Decides that the Israeli decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration in the occupied Golan Heights is null and void and without legal effect.
The way in which an occupied territories natural resources should be administered are through International law, principally the Hague Regulations 1907 and the Geneva Conventions 1949. Article 55 of Hague limits an occupying power to that of administrator and usufructuary of public buildings, real estate, forests and agricultural estates belonging to the hostile state, it must safeguard the capital [natural resources]and administer them in accordance with the rules of usufruct.
It is illegal for Israel to sell the capital i.e, Syrian natural resources. It is this illegality which necessitated UNSC resolution number 1483 when the US/UK and other coalition troops occupied Iraq, it read thus; Inter Alia
20. Decides that all export sales of petroleum, petroleum products, and natural gas from Iraq following the date of the adoption of this resolution shall be made consistent with prevailing international market best practices, to be audited by independent public accountants reporting to the International Advisory and Monitoring Board referred to in paragraph 12 above in order to ensure transparency,and decides further that, except as provided in paragraph 21 below, all proceeds from such sales shall be deposited into the Development Fund for Iraq until such time as an internationally recognized, representative government of Iraq is properly constituted;
Also the International Court of Justice at the Hague ruled that it was absolutely forbidden to utilise the natural resources of occupied territory for the need of the occupying country and that by doing so breached International law [Republic of Congo v Uganda. 19th December 2005.

The Food Standards Agency will not prosecute. The Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs [DEFRA], Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs or The UK Foreign Office will not prosecute . I can see the similarities in Westminster granting rights to BP in the North sea, whilst the people of Scotland have very little input or reward.

Despite my previous comment I don’t know if they do, Cameron anyway (being part of the uk in some capacity) must have some idea,,,,,though there have been tensions it’s never been a big issue in most places. I assume the previous Indian influx helps this in the UK.
IMO he is likely just happy to be pushing whatever agenda US is pushing, where there is perhaps less ‘Muslim’ influence.

David Cameron states that “We do not publish the Attorney General’s advice, but I am very happy to discuss the content of that advice and describe what it was about, which was largely self-defence.”
Not good enough. This was an execution carried out on the soil of a country with which we are not at war. We need to see the Attorney General’s legal justification for that act.
I will make two predictions. The Attorney General’s advice will in due course be published: and it will not be generally accepted by international lawyers as in accordance with international law.
This is a foot in the door. Cameron wants the same impunity with drone strikes as the USA has. That is what this is about.

Thanks. It would be surprising if Israel didn’t take advantage, given their track record. They invariably do. Their occupation of nearly all the land they claim is theirs is proof of it. As you’ll know, AIPAC has been pushing for US involvement in the M.E. consistently for many years. It would surely be naive to expect Israel not to push home its advantage in exploiting the weakness, not to mention seizing territory and resources, in what it considers its enemies (i.e. every last nation in the entire region).
Secondly, what makes you think consideration of the Golan Heights and off-shore potential deposits are mutually exclusive?
