This article was published on the Sun’s website at 2.50am, that is hours after the Manchester bombing.
It was updated at 09.50am, long after the decision to suspend electioneering. I am not going to link to the article, but the comments below it from the public are unanimous.
I pray that the vile people at the Sun have miscalculated, and in future the Sun will be as welcome in Manchester as in Liverpool.
Your sick rag disgusts all the good people of Britain. The Sun should be closed down. It’s not a newspaper, it’s a propaganda sheet. Shame on you!
I quite agree with you. Should have been closed down years ago!!
Why should the Sun be closed down? and who are you to agitate for its closure?
Start taking some responsibility for yourself. If you do not like the Sun do not buy it and do not read it. That solves your problem.
Suppose you actually manage to get it closed down. What does that achieve? All it really does is to undermine the people of Liverpool who refuse all dealings with the Sun and whose resolution remains firm.
You already have an entire City showing you how to deal with this matter. Showing you how victory is possible. Showing you that there is not really any personal price to pay. Showing you that a cost free mechanism is available to both fight and to win.
Murdoch must love people like you as you merely act to kick the legs away from those willing to resist.
“Start taking some responsibility for yourself”
They are, try it yourself.
Goodbye.
Loony, Speaking as a person from Merseyside, closing down The S*n is exactly what we want. It doesn’t undermine our principled stand whatsoever. We believe that this rag should not have the free rein to hurt families and slander the memory of innocent people in the same way it hurt the families of the 96 and slandered their names. So I fail to understand what you’re trying to say here, but I know it’s not in our name.
Anyone who works for this vile rag and anyone who buys it should hang their head in shame. Utterly despicable to use a real tragedy for your own political ends. You are a disgrace to humanity.
It’s interesting, isn’t it, that this disreputable rag, while laying the blame for last night’s bombing at the feet of Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell, has said absolutely NOTHING about the Conservative candidate who, I understand, admitted to being a member of the IRA and talked about killing British soldiers (I am presuming that this story is true).
Nope, nor has Tim Dawson a failed sitcom writer who posted this on twitter
https://twitter.com/Tim_R_Dawson/status/866903742725193728
In fact when someone on twitter pointed out Maria Gatland’s IRA past, he admitted to knowing nothing of it, and doubted its credibility. It’s true alright, she has written about it extensively.
Thanks for clarifying that for me, Mark. I am often a bit doubtful about some of the things posted on Facebook; glad to have this one confirmed, at least.
The Belfast Telegraph has written a few articles about it so there is no doubt it is true: http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/maria-gatland-from-terrorist-to-tory-28457193.html
But the point is they didn’t make her leader of the Conservative party…she was a lowly councillor.
Not to dispute the hideous and despicable nature of the Sun, but this is entirely predictable behaviour from them. So either Jeremy and his cabinet should have a cast iron , effective and credible defence against this sort of predictable attack, or perhaps factor this in before electing him party leader. It’s a no brainer, I’m amazed everyone is so surprised.
I take your point Jim, that Maria is a ‘lowly’ councillor, but the point is that Corbyn has condemned the IRA several times now and the media and the Tories continue to ignore his words and spread this lie. It makes you wonder just what did Maria Gatland have to say to get their forgiveness and their acceptance? It makes you wonder what unelected Tory peer David James had to do too, because he laundered money for the IRA back in the day
What a disgraceful article – reaching a new low even for the Sun! Whoever wrote this piece that is so full of lies should be sacked.
After the Madrid subway was bombed some years ago, Aznar’s conservative government did not derive the expected benefit in the election that shortly followed. Aznar tried to blame the Basques, and the Spanish electorate saw through the lies.
Yes, because Aznar was wrong (or lied, if you want to believe that).
But here there is no doubt who is responsible for this outrage.
So there is nothing for the British electorate to “see through”.
True. The blame lies with the western imperialists. Bomb innocent people and their friends and families get upset, funnily enough.
I do hope people see that Corbyn is the solution to terrorism.
Let us wait until the perp has been identified and then we can see whether he was “friends and family” with the innocent people being bombed by the “western imperialists”.
It may turn out he was British born and bred with no connection with any of the countries you have in mind.
Highly unlikely, but it may turn out that he was treated by the Israelis?
may turn out he was a member of the tory party – you never know
Dickenson
No, I do not believe there is an Israeli connection and I do not believe you have the slightest reason for speculating so except perhaps to stir up hatred of Israel.
So let us cone back to your idea once the perp has been identified, shall we.
‘Terrorist’ are treated and helped by Israel.
“Israel quite openly backing al-Qaeda in Syria. Interview with former Mossad chief Efraim Halevy.”
Shows how much they are worried by the campaigning progress of labour now the public get a relatively uncensored view of Corbyn. I am worried about how this tragedy will derail the momentum Labour hjas bmade since the beginning of campaigning. All of the hideous stuff that has so damaged may in recent days has now vanished replaced by this – which plays weell into the fortunes of incumbent conservatives everywhere. In Christchurch NZ immediately after the quake, a highly unpopular mayor Bob Parker said that he’d cease campaigning and the runaway laeder at the time Jim Anderton jhad no choice but to follow….Parker won in a landslide on the back of the quake..
Valuable question, because you know they won’t. They’re learning from the SNP. You don’t engage with the offensive drunk in the pub (aka the mainstream press). You make eye contact elsewhere and move off.
These are total lies and fabrication, Corbyn and McDonnell are honest genuine people ,the Sun paper and its owners should be prosecuted for incitement to hate, totally disgusting, words cannot express, tomorrow’s headlines in the Sun must be front page apology stating that all the previous posts about these people is false and also beg the people who are bereft for forgiveness.
No, it shouldn’t be prosecuted.
What should happen is that Corbyn and McDonnell should sue the Sun if they feel they’ve been libelled.
That’s how one does things in a liberal democracy.
Perhaps it may even backfire on Mays campaign.
Although this incident will strengthen her prospects.y
Unfortunately I wonder if it is not a moral necessity to politicise this because the right wing that feeds this conflict in our society is, and it’s creating more danger for everyone.
It certainly will strengthen the hand of those that still subscribe to the idea, if not contested.
Just Confirm what I right about the Sun. They don’t believe in journalism or professionalism, just sensationalism and promoting their own pathetic and hateful views. Somewhere along the way they have forgotten what NEWSpapers supposed to be about. They just report things with no factual evidence. They don’t seem to care about truth at all. I am just amazed there are people out there that still buy it.
I have long thought you could sink no lower, you proved me wrong. You have printed this patently untrue story to try and malign the most honest men in politics.
I hope your public hate you as much as I do. You sicken me.
Remember the Jo Cox murder – how it was exploited to swing the opinion polls? Public opinion was turning definitely towards EXIT, but together with a campaign by ‘HATE not Hope’ to put the word about that the EXIT campaign was based on hate, their lead plummeted. I recently came across ‘HATE not Hope’ when they had called for their people to descend on our Keep Talking meeting on 2 May to close it down with brainless screams of ‘Fascists’. Some of them didn’t know what our group was, and what the topic was. They should have been closed down by the Charity Commission. Instead, they’ve been receiving money from Jo Cox’s Fund, together with the controversial White Helmets.
The Sun is of course boycotted in Liverpool. How come they were so quick off the mark following last night’s terror attack? Just how vile are some in the media and the secret services, I wonder.
You should be ashamed of yourself you sc** have you learned nothing from The Hillsbrough Disaster.
Disgraceful
The sun has reached an all time low, I hope it backfires. My worry is that due to TMs savage cuts, the Met has announced that 4,000 police are to be axed and yet the UK is being told by TM that we will be safer with her in power. This atrocity happened while she was in charge. People should be demanding a stop to the cuts in the police and the NHS. What happens if there is another terror attack and we don’t have the police there to protect us?
‘police there to protect us’. Ho ho, good one.
Oh, you’re serious ? Let me laugh harder …
Here, here Pamela
Vile rag. Call yourself news. Your just titilation and propaganda.
Beyond sick. You should be shut down. Now.
May could not resist making a not very subtle reference to the bomb attack in Manchester in 1996.
Why . does. she. speak. in. staccato. mode. at times like this with each word clipped and enunciated.
Martha Kearney adopted that sombre world weary tone on WATO http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08qxfkj
and that was followed by a programme about Bin Laden .
‘
Part 7: Death on the Nile
Our Man in the Middle East
On the trail of Osama Bin Laden. BBC Middle East Editor Jeremy Bowen follows his journey from Saudi Arabia to Afghanistan via a ranch on the banks of the Nile. “1998 was the first time that anyone who wasn’t expert in the growth of radical jihadist violence had heard of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda,” he says. “Reports on the BBC website at the time referred to him as ‘Mr Bin Laden, an exiled Saudi dissident’. Years later there was no need to find a form of words to describe him and the BBC was no longer calling him Mister.”
Bowen started reporting on the region in the lead up to the Gulf War back in 1990. Since then, he has witnessed endless wars between individuals, religious groups and full-sized states, jostling for military, political and economic power. He has interviewed dictators, fanatics and fundamentalists as well as the ordinary people caught up in their dangerous games. In that time, the past has always been present, providing motivation and political ammunition. Bowen has made headlines himself and he has paid a personal price, coming under fire and losing a colleague in the course of reporting – on the worst day, he says, in his life.’
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08r1v99
“1998 was the first time that anyone who wasn’t expert in the growth of radical jihadist violence had heard of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda,” I distinctly remember hearing about usama (as they called him then) binladen as a possible excuse for NATO’s future existence as early as 1992 – I’m no jihadi expert – this was on newsnight.
This is disgusting using the deaths of innocent children to score political points. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
I hope your last sentence will mark the start of a wildfire, a national boycott of this muckrake, everywhere, a..e crawling rag should be done for inciting the public and possible violence.
Do the victims need such blatant abuse of a tragic event? Manchester people have been amazing after this attack, everyone offering help and support. What does this flaming of the public with another past terror story achieve? what are they going to print next to try and stop a decent honest man from serving the public?
It was the Sun that lost it for May, should be the headline on June the 9th. and her double U turn, ending up at the same spot, a tax pirouette on top of our houses, ‘look folks, nothing has changed’ will go into history.
Is that the deal to get your horse shitty hands on Sky TV, Rupe? by sucking up to the coalition of doom’s backside, serving their dear leader for Mammon?
One day this waste of good wood pulp will fail to seize the public’s gaze with their spats and lies, their paparazzi shots of the self obsessed and their made up lies about Hillsborough.
Sun reporters deserve to be booted out of Manchester.
We have learned to lie to ourselves and kid ourselves along, just dandy!
Shades of inquisitorial rhetorical question of; do you believe Blair did not mislead the parliament and the country? The answer to which always was a negative, followed by; I do not believe he deliberately misled the nation!
Evidently King Salman of the al saud pederasts and his minions thereof in Wahabi militia aka IS/ISIS/Daesh in an all familiar pattern by now. These Wahabi operatives have dashed to the rescue of the damsel in distress at the hands of that snivelling IRA sympathising Corbyn, and set the elections to be won by the St T. of May. The same May who was the home secretary for years before she was installed as the prime minister. But of course that has no bearing on the matters, where the Corbyn’s winning policies are concerned and the total fiasco of the Tory manifesto.
Needless to point out that sub contracting the grief of those whom have lost a loved one, and modulating hate is a natural behaviour of the same bunch of bastards that have only the devil to worship and have lost whatever soul of humanity they had a long while back.
My sympathies to the families and my heartfelt wishes of patience and fortitude for those affected .
Jeremy Corbyn has never-ever ‘sucked-up’ to the IRA, he has only EVER campaigned in order to achieve PEACE. It was only Labour who achieved peace in Northern Ireland — AFTER the Tories refused even hold talks with the IRA!! The Sun’s statement is defamatory, libellous and GROUNDLESS. Murdoch should therefore be sued in the Royal Courts of Justice for defamation – and The SUN closed down – just as his News of the World had to be closed-down after Murdoch’s telephone tapping scandal – a criminal offence!
THERESA MAY, who is working with The Sun and it’s reprehensible owner – shows herself to be a ruthless political manipulator! She has met Murdoch approx. 10 times this year so far at no. 10 Downing Street and should be ashamed of the vile collaboration with Murdoch – such a nasty, shivelled-up old exploiter, puller of strings, conniver, and wheeler-dealer.
So just who is running the UK? Rupert Murdoch, the phone tapping criminal?
Murdoch and others in the media work with MAY – and fight Corbyn for one reason only. Jeremy CORBYN, as PRIME MINISTER, is going to make all these tax-dodging Billionaires actually pay their TAXES!!!
“The Sun’s statement is defamatory, libellous and GROUNDLESS. Murdoch should therefore be sued in the Royal Courts of Justice for defamation”

At last! One of Craig’s followers agrees with me ! 🙂
Yes, let Corbyn and McDonnell sue if they think they’ve been libelled.
Habbabkuk has £100 which say that neither one will sue.
Why won’t they?
Do tell.
Should that be ‘I have £100…..?
Offering bets?
Stay classy chum.
would theresa pressing the button and launching a nuclear weapon in the midst of our second biggest city at this one suicide bomber have sorted this problem ? all her cuts in our military, police and nhs were not helpful either..
Somebody should ask Murdoch if there were no negotiations with the IRA wouldn’t THEY still be bombing?
I have complained to IPSO about this…it is gutter press at it’s absolute worst….that rag should be wiped of the face of the earth and it’s “journalists” (and I use the term loosely) should never be allowed to put pen to paper again….they are beyond despicable!
This is a new low, even for your standards.
The Mail were even quicker off the mark. At 01:11 they put out story with headline
‘Now former IRA killer claims Corbyn’s open show of support helped prolong the group’s campaign of violence’
I think it’s senility.
Such a disgusting rag of a “newspaper” run by vile inhuman beings. I personally comment out loud whenever I pass anyone reading it that it’s a disgusting rag and WHO reads it is alike. Perhaps we can ALL Shame people into NOT buying it.
Definitely.
I just visited the 3rd shop iv complained in. The other 2 including the co-op won’t get by business again. The one just now has always seemed a decent establishment, I hope it was noted.
And at 10:00, even before the bombing took place, the sun put up this
Sean O’Callaghan Jeremy Corbyn might not have planted a bomb but he made it easier for those who did, says former IRA man
IRA men and women derived great encouragement from the solidarity openly displayed by the Labour leader and John McDonnell

Both stories have disappeared from the sites now. But I did keep page copies of them, as I was so surprised that they appearred so quickly at around the time of the bombing. Most disconcerting.
It’s time for the S*n and Murdoch to disappear into the vacuum of space… Disgraceful, the writer of the article should be a shamed of themselves…
May is visiting the Children’s Hospital to thank the staff. I am sure they have better and more important work to do than being involved in a election publicity stunt.
Are you sure she’s no just popping in for lunch?
