UN Peacekeepers Watch Civilians Massacred 536

On 26 January, 26 unarmed civilians were shot dead by Israel and 147 wounded in a massacre observed by heavily armed UN Peacekeepers who did not intervene. I asked the UN the very hard questions which nobody else is asking them.

The civilians were simply attempting to return to their homes in accordance with both UNSCR 1701 and the current ceasefire agreement, and indeed UNIFIL has a specific mandate under 1701 to assist displaced people to return.

So what has gone wrong with UNIFIL? Is this Srebrenica syndrome? What is the purpose of the heavy weaponry deployed by the UN’s best-equipped peacekeeping force, if it can never be fired? Why is the UN failing to monitor the hundreds of Israeli breaches of the Ceasefire Agreement? Why is the UN serving on a committee under a US General?

These and other questions I put to UNIFIL spokesman Andrea Tenenti. I did so in my usual, I hope courteous, manner. The result is a fascinating conversation which I believe is an extremely important piece of documentation of institutional failure to confront Israeli and US aggression at a critical time for the entire world.

Craig has shown us that the UN and its representatives in UNIFIL are impotent to the violent actions of a rabid Zionist expansion of its territory into Southern Lebanon.
Meanwhile the good people of Blackburn Community Association have done some actions which are equally brave. I am proud that my wife and myself helped the many others collecting money over the festive period/winter solstice.
Many of the people within this group supported Craig’s campaign last year and their valiant effort and selfless engagement in Jordan and the west bank is showing what can be possible.

From small acorns big Oaks can grow and this action, if replacing cated all over the north, Manchester, Birmingham, Bradford, wherever, could result in much more widespread help, soothing pain, hunger and more.
Moreover it shows the wider silent Arab majority to put their hands in their pockets and join in this useful effort. Doing different was the motto at UEA; that’s what the BCA did.

But will it go anywhere – that’s the crux of the matter.

“Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been referred to the International Criminal Court as an accessory to genocide in Gaza.

This is the first Western leader to be referred, as over 100 Australian lawyers backed this move.”

  • Republicofscotland

Well, well, well the Spanish authorities have been making big noises about opposing the genocide in Gaza – then this revealed.

“The Spanish Socialists have been caught with their proverbial pants down. Having proclaimed an embargo on arms sales/transfers to Israel, a new investigation revealed non-stop cargo flights replete with weapons from Zaragoza to Tel Aviv. Till this day!”

      Bad, bad, bad.
I always knew nobody should trust Spaniards in the works.
And mark my words, it’s even worse than the Greeks believe. They actually eat fresh anchovies. People you can’t trust, as all neocons will agree.
Meanwhile, regarding weapons transfers, it’s just a drop in the bucket. Too bad there’s no RETURN TO SENDER in this domain, and despite Elvis’ song 🎶

  • Republicofscotland

    This is a bit surprising.

“Journalists working at Britain’s most prestigious newspapers and TV channels have expressed concern at pro-Israel bias inside their organisations. Speaking exclusively to Declassified, half a dozen current and former staff at the BBC, Sky, ITN, the Guardian and the Times have disclosed the extent of anti-Palestinian prejudice in their newsrooms.

All of the journalists requested anonymity for fear of professional reprisals. Despite working for a range of outlets from across the political spectrum, they painted a consistent picture of the obstacles faced by reporters who want to humanise Palestinians or scrutinise Israeli government narratives.”

  • MR MARK CUTTS

Just a quick question for anyone on here please.

Now Trump is de–NATO-fying Europe – what are the US going to do with their Nukes and Nuke sites?

Is Trump going to take his Nuclear balls home now he’s resigned from TEAM NATO?

    • Tatyana

Oh no! We have three formidable Baltic tigers sitting next to us, planning to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia.
I believe that only NATO membership kept them from carrying out these deadly plans.
If the wise and peace-loving NATO loosens the leash, these bloodthirsty beasts will tear us to pieces!
I’m going to learn how to ask for mercy in Estonian…

      • JK redux

        Tatyana

        Very droll.

        In the same spirit.

The Baltic Republics would of course never dream of attacking Russia. Nor even of defending themselves against a 3-day/3-year Special Military Operation.

After all the Baltic Republics had a splendid experience as republics of the USSR and had to be forced out by anti Soviet agitators.

        Very sad.

Re Ukraine, of course 4% Zalenskyy must step down immediately and be replaced by a Governor appointed by 104% Putin.

You must be very proud of your President.

        • Tatyana

Thank you, you gave me an idea – I need to ask the Baltic states one more thing. If they don’t like the Soviet Union, which made them national republics, then maybe they will like a throwback to earlier history, where they were just provinces of the Russian empire.

          • JK redux

            Tatyana

I’m not sure that I can mimic your sardonic humour.

So forgive me if I make a factual answer.

A “national” republic of the USSR had no greater autonomy than a province of the Russian Empire.

Both were subject to direction by the Politburo/ Imperial Government.

And of course neither could leave until the Moscow administration collapsed as in 1917/1990.

But I expect that you know all that.

Lenin famously referred to the Russian Empire as the prison of peoples
            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prison_of_peoples.

The USSR was no better though the nature of the prison was successfully hidden by propaganda and repression.

          • Tatyana

The Soviet Union was a union of those republics that rejected the monarchical and religious principle of power. Soviet and socialist, that was the plan. The Balttics received much more autonomy than they had in the monarchical empire. It was thanks to their new status that they were able to legally become independent states after the collapse of the USSR. Which would be absolutely impossible if they remained provinces.

          • JK redux

            Tatyana

Once the USSR collapsed there was no “centre” to forbid the re-emergence of the Baltic republics as sovereign states. Though the rump USSR tried to resist for a few months.

(I did enjoy your humour about “The Soviet Union was a union of those republics that rejected the monarchical and religious principle of power. Soviet and socialist.” and the diminuendo “that was the plan”.)

            A prison of peoples…

          JK Redux

If the Baltic States would never attack Russia why is ( should I say was maybe?) NATO sniffing around them and are now sniffing around Georgia and Romania in order to put NATO Bases in these five countries?

I am sure it was ( still is?) the aim of gaining a First Strike possibility simply because these countries are nearer to Moscow than ooh…… say..New York?

This is a massive mistake – or deliberate mistake by the politicians and the MSM still pushing for more war and not peace as what Ukraine was and still is about is the possibility of NATO putting Nuclear Warheads right next to Russia in order to enhance the chances of a First Strike.

          Easy as that.

It is not a visitation – it is not an accident – it is/was a US plan.

Because it is/was a US plan the Ukrainians don’t come into it and neither does Zelensky.

This is why it’s Trump and Putin are at the negotiating table and not him.

The Yanks are there because it’s their Bidenist Plan that has gone utterly wrong.

Only proving that Ukraine and its people were used in a proxy war by the US and the rest of the west to try and undermine Russia and by doing that ( if Russia had lost of course) and by definition undermine the US’s really dangerous enemy, China.

If the French and the UK want to try and build a European Army to keep back the invading Russian rapacious army ( the one that can’t even take over Ukraine – remember?) then they will have to explain five things to their populous to do it:

One: What they are going to do? ( as yet unknown)

Two: Who is going to pay for it?

Three: Who’s assets are they defending?

Four: If the rich don’t pay to defend their actual assets then some other group of people will pay – who will that be?

Five: THE main question: Are you willing to send your young people into a War with Russia?

Trump has said no – what does the UK and Europe say?

We have gone from fighting to last Ukranian to fighting to the last European?

Is that the Centrist Pitch and possibly yours?

          • JK redux

            Mark Cutts

Are you suggesting that Finland, Sweden & the Baltic States will be required to leave NATO?

The only threat to Russia is Putin’s regime.

Putin’s paranoia is a consequence of his autocracy, Stalin displayed similar behaviour.

Or do you seriously believe that the US would consider a first strike given the inevitable response from Russian missile submarines etc.?

          • Steve Hayes

I doubt it was the siting of nuclear missiles that was the main motive in fomenting the Ukraine war. My guess it was to provide a justification for massive sanctions and the expectation that the Wonder Weapons would humiliate and destabilise Putin by letting NATO grab Crimea with its strategic naval base. They would hope for a rerun of the Soviet collapse except this time the Westerners would grab the loot instead of the Oligarchs and China would be shut out of the treasure trove. But they made two massive miscalculations. Sanctions were ineffective because Russia was already in alliance with China – I suspect China is using them as a proxy on the other side. And the Wonder Weapons that they’d squandered squillions on weren’t that wonderful against masses of Russia’s badge engineered Chinese drones. Now they’ve got a real problem because, as they square up for WW3 with China, the world can see that the emperor has no clothes. Trump may have assessed this and that’s why he looks to be falling back to Fortress America.

Starmer’s regime hitting new low, today the UK ambassador to Israel Simon Walters condemned the death of 1 israeli toddler, a death most likely resulted from Israel bombardment of Gaza but the UK and Israel blame palestinians:

“The British ambassador to Israel, Simon Walters, said: “The Israeli authorities have now confirmed from forensic evidence that the little Bibas children were murdered in captivity. This is a gruesome new low, compounded by the failure to return the body of Shiri, their mother. May Kfir and Ariel rest in peace.”
Link to archived Skynews article https://archive.is/qKAlV#selection-952.0-952.1

This particular quote^ is suddenly vanished from the most updated version of the Sky-article, so perhaps the gullable west realized that they jumped the gun once again when it comes to their absurd trust they have in the lies Israel peddle.

So basically, when thousands of palestinian toddlers are killed by Israel the western states have nothing to say, when 1 israeli toddler is killed, there is condemnations even though most likely Israel themselves commited the murder.

What is obvious is that palestinians seems to have been careful of the israeli captives and have certainly not executed any captive before and they would sure as hell do not kill a toddler, that would make absolute zero sense.

This dead burnt babies stuff yet again to justify Netanyahu breaking the Ceasefire Agreement so he can get back to his and the IDF’s favourite game – bombing undefended people.

The interesting part of this ‘outrage’ is the DNA info.

They must have the DNA of the woman who it should have been.

OK – it’s not the woman in question – no argument with that. But if she was killed by Hamas fighters then – unless Hamas had Military Grade Bombs to do that – how did she and her family really die?

The answer to that is that Hamas did not kill the family.

And because we have a very non-curious MSM that question will never be asked.

The Hostage Families might though if they ask the simple question: How did they die – bullet, knife or bomb?

Sorry to be gruesome to all here but bullets and knives do not blow you to pieces. Bombs do – and Hamas have none.

      • Brian Red

“(I)t’s not the woman in question”.
I wouldn’t believe anything the IDF say about anything, especially when they are lying about the babies.
Hamas should say “Pass us the forensics and we will investigate. Our law and our orders do not permit the commission of such crimes under any circumstances. We will investigate all such allegations we receive. It must be yourselves you’re getting us mixed up with.”

  • Brian Red

Are the Zionists preparing for another large assault? They are claiming that resistance members murdered two baby prisoners with their bare hands and then pretended they’d been killed in a Zionist air strike.

It’s insane how the IDF speaks of dead Jews as if they were still alive: “Shiri Bibas, who was meant to be returned with her children to Israel as part of the agreement, was not returned by Hamas.”

Things couldn’t get any better. The Donald has just publicly stated that Genocide-Starmer and Genocide-Macron (snails and stinky cheese eater) have never done anything to help the SMO in Ukraine find a just resolution. He doesn’t forget the RARE EARTHS, and wants 50 percent minimum.
So Heil Elon, Heil Bannon who have moral principles and right arm salutes. Also they do know which side toast can be buttered.

          Do you have any misgivings?

          None?

Perhaps worth considering the second (?) verse of the Internationale:

          “No more deluded by reaction
On tyrants only we’ll make war
The soldiers too will take strike action
They’ll break ranks and fight no more
And if those cannibals keep trying
To sacrifice us to their pride
They soon shall hear the bullets flying
We’ll shoot the generals on our own side.”

          And will you shoot them?

If you want to discuss psychology I suggest you watch Jordan Peterson’s’ You tube Channels.

He tells us that he’s very good.

Putin is not ‘ Evil’ neither is Trump – Hitler didn’t have a bad experience as
a child and got up one morning thinking :

‘You know what – I think I’ll invade Europe via Poland ‘

All the above and you and me are products of the situation – the world situation at that.

If you want to discuss Concentrated economics ( politics – war being the most violent type)
then fine but yourself and the MSM and politicians need to cut this psychological garbage.

All nations emerge from either A) Winning a war or B) Losing a war.

They don’t emerge by the process of one man having ‘ evil thoughts’

    Not even Netanyahu.

He and his mad mates are a product of the situation that the world and the Middle East
is in – was in and might be in and most of the ‘ situations ‘ over the years have come from
the situations the US has put these countries in.

Finland and Sweden joined NATO not out of fear of Russia but out of fear of whatt the US
would do to them if they didn’t join.

Even ‘ Neutral ‘ Switzerland bowed to that pressure.

I’m not sure of what your definition of Imperialism is but the description goes like this.

As an example Great Britain sent investment capital over to India – with this capital Indian
Cotton Growers and finishers were exploited.

The resulting profits were sent back to the investing country and were not used to make the
    Indians lives better.

That is an approximate definition of Imperialism.

France/Belgium / Britain /Spain etc can accurately be described as Imperialist and the daddy of
them all is the dear old Land of The Free ( an ironic title ).

Now you and many others will say ‘ Ah but Russia and the Old Soviet Union were and are Imperialist.

I’m fairly old and I don’t remember any western media outlets telling us that the Soviet Union was sending
capital over to The West and bleeding our people dry via exploitation then re-patriating the profits back to
the Evil Empire to fund its warmachine.

That’s because it never happened and it isn’t happening with Russia now.

You are aware ( I hope ?) that Russia applied to join the EU and Nato?

They were rebuffed on both counts as the US did not like it.

Imagine how different the energy markets would look now if those overtures from a fellow
capitalist nation had been accepted .

Russia pissing outside the tent instead of pissing in.

Instead the fake Liberal – neo liberal economic technocrats under constant duress from the US have led
us – the Ukranians – the Russians into absolute chaos.

All Trump is doing if you look at things politically and not psychologically is putting US Imperialism aside
    temporarily.

He and his acolytes know they can’t fight wars against two powerful and nuclear armed nations and conduct
defensive wars in the Middle East to protect their assets.

Trump has chosen ( until it is more propitious to do) to make a temporary peace with Russia with a view to try
and prise Russia away from the really dangerous threat of China and the BRICS.

A revisit of what they did with credulous Gorbachev.

Then once it’s more nicey nicey they can get on with the job of joining in with Israel’s attacks on a large part of
    the Arab world.

Settle that ( temporarily again ) with the hope that this will clear the way for an attack on China.

I’ve said many a time that it is a strange North Atlantic Treaty Organisation that wonders around away from
the North Atlantic and spend not much time in The Atlantic but hangs about in the South China Seas.

So in essence it is not about psychology it is all about economics and it political expression when a powerful
State wants some thing and the opponent won’t give in – it’s called War.

Good and Evil is worse than childlike to describe what’s actually going on.

It is naive and I hope you don’t think in those terms?

Leave that to the alleged experts on TV or Youtube for that matter.

You say that ” Finland and Sweden joined NATO not out of fear of Russia but out of fear of whatt the US

Do you have any evidence for that claim?

      No?

      Both countries are democracies.

Were there significant protests against joining NATO?

      Nope.

      Didn’t think so…

      • Frank Hovis

        JK,

        JK Redux

Well – if you give me about a year or two for research I might be
able to give you what you require.

Maybe turn it into a book – who knows?

You need look no further than the TV.

The countries in question were not itching to join NATO before – Ukraine most certainly was.

Switzerland ( neutral even during the Nazi invasion Europe – a proper invasion ) became mysteriously mad keen to join NATO.

A moment of madness after all these years?

Finland shares a long border and as long history with Russia – Sweden not sure.

But you have to believe in one thing and one thing only that is:

The idea that a country that can’t take over Ukraine can miraculously take over the near whole of Europe in a flash like Hitler.

        It’s ridiculous.

I’ve watched many a BBC sages and others in the MSM and they are missing a crucial point.

This was never about the Sovereignty of the Ukraine, it was ( and still is ) about the Sovereignty of the US – by the means of NATO which they own and run.

The wrangling over minerals between their alleged ‘ mates ‘ should tell you all you need to know about the defence of Ukraine.

It’s nauseating and cruel to the Ukranian people.

It was and is about Russia’s reaction to NATO not creeping but, running up to the RussianBorders.

Many cite The Cuban Missile Crisis and the US reaction to it as an example of US hypocrisy and they are right.

If you were Russian would you be in favour of that or are you a defender of -Democracies can do what they want just because they are democracies?

Finally- not all Imperialist are equal.

As Starmer and Macron are about to find out the US will have its Imperial way and if small countries get in the way of American Interests they will be damaged.

Perhaps by sanctions and tariffs from the US?

They are already happening now, thereby proving that; if you don’t do as you are told by Uncle Sam the consequences can be devastating.

A lot of money has been snatched by the US from countries who won’t do what they are told.

The UK and France are very much aware of that despite their views on Ukraine.

I don’t know what all three countries were told to do but, I suspect that it was an Offer they couldn’t refuse.

Offered from the biggest Gangster State the world has ever seen.

I would be very aware of Orange Man bearing gifts.

As an anti Imperialist I do know that even the bad guys can stop wars.

But don’t believe that Trump and his mad mates have become Peaceniks.

There are reasons behind this nicey – nicey approach to Russia.

That is: it is an attempt to prise Russia away from the influence of China and the BRICS.

The US is seriously overstretched and can not handle three conflicts at once and they realise this.

So – lovey dovey with Russia calms that situation down and non lovey dovey against the Palestinaians as a whole and the Lebanese might calm that situation down.

Only temporarily so as they can get a free run at Attacking or taking on the real enemy of the USA – China.

You and the MSM and even fellow Lefties must realise that all this nicey – ness is temporary.

There was a clown on France 24 the other day who posited that because Obama got a peace prize that was the reason why Trump wanted peace in Ukraine.

That’s the depth of analysis in the MSM in general.

All temporary stuff until the time and the opportunity is right ( a bit like Netanyahu ) and then it’s back to the real business of being the Top Imperialist nation.

Only one problem with trump’s approach:

He and the US have their plans but think no other countries have their plans too.

If any numbskull thinks that Putin and Lavrov will fall for the Gorbachev/Yeltsin ploy again they haven’t thought it through at all.

A bit like playing yourself on half a Chessboard.

As usual. history will judge it.

There is a phrase doing the leftie rounds:

        ‘ The Reverse Kissinger Doctrine’

That was, prising China away from The Soviet union.(Nixon – he
got a lovely panda out of it).

        Now it’s the reverse.

Interesting times to be born in.

May I kindly suggest you desist from hitting the return/new line key in your comments? The width of a reader’s screen depends on a lot of things (device, font size, window size etc), and what you see as the end of the line isn’t the same for everyone else. If there was any need to prove how RIGHT Jonathan Swift was, here you go :
Elon plays the DOGE, and immediately there’s the Confederacy of Dunces going after him, like rabid dogs…
And it’s been reported he’s been in constant touch with Vladimir for a few years. No wonder Starlink is invaluable on Ukraine territory to facilitate SMO operations.
We can’t be sure he’ll take us to Mars any time soon, but he certainly already flew us to the moon !
Elon and Donald allegedly have ‘specific plans’ for Lebanon. No wonder the future US Embassy compound there is so oversized!
I’m sure Craig must have had insider info trickled down to him…

  • Republicofscotland

So the Orange Zionist POTUS and his billionaire side-kick Musk are threatening to withdraw over 40,000 StarLink satellites from Ukraine if the Neo-Nazi dictator Zelensky doesn’t give US companies access to sought after minerals in Ukraine.

Inevitably the Neo-Nazi dictator will have to be removed from office, and replaced by a compliant puppet.

    • Tatyana

RoS, actually it’s Ze who made the proposal on Ukraine’s minerals. It was his initiative.
I don’t know what happened then, but now he looks like delayed it and avoids meeting or speaking about details.

My guess is that the plan was: US comes to develop the mines and brings their military to safeguard this. Like they do with oil fields in Syria. Perhaps, now, watching Trump’s opinion about the war, he rather doesn’t want US military in Ukraine, as it may be not in his favour.

    • Jack

Zelensky is sure one real ungrateful type of person, like a spoiled child he try to call the shots and while that have worked, without any obstacle from the west, until now but that will not work with Trump. U.S. have bent over backwards and given them over $100 billion in pure aid and risked nuclear war, and still Zelensky still do not understand that perhaps Ukraine should give something back??
From Ukraine’s perspective, it would benefit them if they could just agree and close such a “mineral deal”, Trump said it himself, if they could strike a deal, they will keep aiding Ukraine. But Zelensky obviously want the cake and eat it too, Zelensky’s (ego) want to be lionized, get the peace prize and be forever remembered and for that he will simply not step down. What a mess…

      • Tatyana

Imo, Ukrainians are convinced that they are fighting for democracy, in the abstract sense of the word. They think it’s their destiny, their sacrifice. Like how Jesus died on the cross so that God would forgive people.
This is a fanatical faith, and there is no need to ask why god could not forgive people simply out of the kindness of his soul, but preferred the painful execution of Christ. There is no need to ask why the Ukrainians did not resolve the conflict through diplomacy.
A typical case of fanaticism – they closed their eyes, denied the facts of reality, listened only to those who fed delusional ideas about their high mission, they are chosen ones to fight the Evil. Warriors of the light vs orks of the Dark lord, etc etc.
Faith is a thing where logic does not work.
they have forgotten how to be just people in the real world where you can resolve conflicts by talking and listening.

        • Tatyana

I will explain a little more to my above opinion:
I believe that if you want to fight for democracy, then you fight for all segments of your population to have representation in power. You protest against, for example, property qualifications. Or against discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, religion. You will defend ideological and political pluralism.

If you declare some of your citizens undesirable and even threatening, if you legally prohibit language, culture, religion – then even the most biased observer will admit that you are not fighting for democracy. You are building a Nazi dictatorship.

And if you see that the contradictions are too strong, but still insist on the unitarity of the state, not giving autonomy to the regions, suppressing them by military means – then it’s not democracy, guys. Damn it, Ein Volk Ein Reich is your motto.
And if you refuse to hold elections, then you can simply add Ein Führer and finish it with slava Ukraine.

        • Pears Morgaine

” they have forgotten how to be just people in the real world where you can resolve conflicts by talking and listening. ”

Remind me again; who invaded who? Please explain that last point to Mr Putin.

Ukraine has been fighting for the right to self-determination in the face of an aggressive invader. What else would you expect them to do? What would you do? Once peace has been restored they can elect their own government rather than have a ‘compliant puppet’ appointed by Trump or Putin.

          • fonso

They tried that before and their government was couped by a Nazi-CIA double act.

Since then compliant US puppets have been the order of the day in Kiev, the latest being forced by Washington to renege on his promise of peace.

          • Tatyana

you are free to call it a variety of words that are pleasant to you.
The essence of what is happening won’t change.

The Kiev regime discriminated against its own citizens on cultural, ethnic, linguistic and religious grounds and directly destroyed the population in the Donbass. In the real world, you can’t do this to the Russians and assume that Russia won’t interfere. This is either dumb stupidity or a calculated provocation.

If I had the desire, I would come up with many beautiful words that appeal to emotions to describe Russia’s actions. For now, I’m quite happy with the “protection of the people of Donbass”, and also“demilitarization and denazification” look more and more convincing to me.

          • Tatyana

            Pears, let me explain.
The population pays taxes, the state apparatus functions from taxes. It looks into constitution and announces elections in which the population nominates its candidates and elects its governing bodies by voting.
Let me remind you that the population pays for this entire system from their own taxes.
So, elected officials make decisions in the interests of the above-mentioned population. This is how democracy works.

Thus, the power that comes from the people, elected and paid for by the people, cannot suddenly deny its voters basic things, such as their native language or ethnic identity.

If you see a government that requires the population to accept a different national, linguistic or religious identity, then you can assert with absolute confidence that this given government is not organically democratic, but alienly dictatorial.

Why do you argue? Isn’t it obvious?

          • fonso

The 2019 election came in the wake of a CIA-instigated, Nazi-executed coup in Ukraine.

Zelensky was only elected in 2019 because he promised to end the ultra nationalist assault on Donbas. That he swiftly reneged on that promise marked him out very early on as a compliant US-Banderite puppet. In spring 2022 he again heeded his masters’ command to reject peace, having by then outlawed opposition parties and media.

Do I believe neocons wish to see Ukraine recover the full democracy and political independence/ sovereignty that existed before 2014?

            I do not.

      • Jack

Zelensky’s boys are sure worried about new elections:

Zelensky aide pleaded with former top general to forgo presidential bid – media
“Vladimir Zelensky’s Chief of Staff Andrey Yermak has urged former head of the army Valery Zaluzhny, not to run for president of Ukraine, according to RBK-Ukraine, citing anonymous sources. The key Zelensky aide reportedly wants Zaluzhny to bolster the ruling party’s declining popularity in parliamentary elections instead.”

        https://swentr.site/russia/610803-ukraine-zaluzhny-presidential-bid/

I assume Zaluzhny (now the ambassador to the UK) is the candidate EU will support if Zelensky will agree to step down.
Perhaps it was a plot by Zelensky to get rid of this contender by sending him off to the UK?

      • Tatyana

Why he can’t be both? He was a ‘compliant puppet’ for Biden’s administration, and new Trump’s administration has already branded him a ‘dictator’. Perhaps it’s not long wait for a ‘Nazi’, too.
The world is big and full of wonders.

      • glenn_nl

In fairness, Putin is doing really badly just against Ukraine, but he’s also going to overrun the rest of Europe.

He’s also completely insane, but we know for sure he’s sensible enough not to use nuclear weapons.

There are plenty of complete contradictions sitting there comfortably together in some people’s heads.

      • Frank Hovis

“So is he a ‘Neo-Nazi dictator’ or a ‘compliant puppet’? He can’t be both”

            Pears Morgaine

It must be very difficult to dictate to a Dictator by definition.

It depends who is doing the dictating to the current dictator at the time.

Saddam Hussein is an ex dictator.

            Gaddafi was a ‘ Benevolent Dictator ‘

What NATO ( the US) did to those absolute power dictators was ‘remove’ them by means of
            attacks.

Thereby, dictating to the dictators that the worlds biggest and most powerful
dictator can get its way once it puts its mind to it.

Of course like Regime Change, you too can become a Dictator because you are a Democracy.

Many wordy tomes have ben produced to underscore that belief.

The belief being that the West is a Democracy when before our very eyes it’s being proven
            that it isn’t anymore.

        • Tatyana

Let’s move away from linguistic word games and focus on semantics.
Ze was already president in 2021, and it was under his rule that the extremely unpopular law on the sale of agricultural land was passed. The land went into the hands of Western companies. Thus, Ze acted both as a puppet for the West and as a dictator for the people of his country.

Australian National Review reported “US companies took advantage of the new legislation for massive investments in the country.” Today, Cargill, Monsanto and Dupont (investors – Vanguard, Blackrock and Blackstone) own 40% of Ukraine’s arable land.
Monsanto directly and also via a number of intermediary companies took possession of:
78% of the land fund of the Sumy region,
          56% of the Chernihov region,
59% of the land in the Kherson region,
          47% of the Nikolaev region,
It also has 34% of the land in the Kiev and Dnepropetrovsk regions.

The Wall Street Journal reported that China owns a tenth of Ukraine’s arable land.

The University of Auckland in 2023 also confirmed that at least 28% of Ukraine’s arable land belongs to oligarchs who created agricultural holdings to sell offshore shares to foreigners. As well as European and North American corporations, and the sovereign fund of Saudi Arabia. The owners of Ukrainian (on paper) agricultural holdings are in fact the American NCH Capital, the French AgroGeneration, the German ADM Germany, KWS, Bayer and BASF, the Saudi PIF and SALIC.

Today is the last week of February. If the Ukrainians want to eat something this year, they need to start preparing the land for the season next week. They need to provide fuel for the farm machinery. And it would be highly desirable for the shells not to fall on the fields with the harvest. They don’t have much of their own farmland left anyway. I hope it will be enough for at least a modest living.
I believe that the conflict should have been stopped long ago, or better yet, not started at all.

          • Harry Law

Not only has Zelensky given most of the arable land of Ukraine to foreign conglomerates, he has promised most of the natural mineral resources under the ground to US interests, except of course the four Oblasts who voted to secede from Ukraine, Zelensky has been a disaster, by following genocide Joe’s demands he has caused the deaths and injuries of up to one million military personnel, the emigration of millions of Ukrainian citizens, leaving a rump state in debt up to its eyeballs. But don’t worry private Starmer [POS] together with the other Euro satraps will stump up money and maybe Euro troops to keep the debacle going.

          • Harry Law

Many western leaders leading up to the special military operation visited Putin and regurgitated the US talking points, probably with not one original thought in their collective heads, thankfully they will soon be deposed, starting with the Oliver Hardy lookalike Scholz followed hopefully by the gormless Stan Hardy lookalike Keir Starmer
Putin has said, all European and Western leaders are like little puppies at the feet of the Master Trump. Wagging their little tales.

          • Tatyana

Wait 🙂 if you don’t mind linguistic games, then let me show you a really funny one 🙂

If you remember, I once gave the example of ‘Cat’ in English, ‘Kot’ in Russian, and ‘Kit’ in Ukrainian. Replacing o with i is a common difference.
The ban on the Russian language in Ukraine was completely idiotic, since it is native to a huge part of the population. Including parliamentarians, who try to speak Ukrainian without knowing it, stupidly distorting Russian words in the way I showed you above.

Such “pearls” are born right on the parliamentary rostrums:
            https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1722708295331983

Let me explain. The person intended to say “our initiative was late”. The correct Ukrainian word for “late” is “запизнылася”. He doesn’t know this, so he takes the Russian “опоздала” and simply changes the vowel. The outcome is an obscene word that roughly means turned into looking like a vagina.

          • Rosemary MacKenzie

Word games apart, imo, the very best thing Ukraine could do now, is to make peace with Russia, or maybe it would be better to surrender to Russia. I don’t think Monsanto, Blackrock etc etc would get their land back, or Trump, the none existent minerals – the mineral wealth of Ukraine is very spread out and not economically viable and the stuff that is has been liberated for the Donbas – ha ha ha. This debacle has gone from how to get our greedy hands on Russia’s resources to how to get our greedy hands on the stuff we strong armed out of Zelensky and his gang. What an utter criminal words fail me mess! With any luck the nazi nest will be eliminated in Ukraine, and maybe we’ll get a decent Eurasian security structure and nato will be toast ( actually, I think it already it)! Can we then all hope to live in peace? Or maybe Trump thinks he can get his greasy hands on Canada and Greenland! The most horrific part of all this has been the loss of life on both sides which needn’t have happened!!!

          • Alyson

Thank you Tatyana. This is indeed the crux of the matter. And we in the UK are as much at risk of forfeiting our national sovereignty of land as has happened in Ukraine. Starmer is a puppet and a fool. He will bankrupt our farmers with an inheritance tax that will hand the land to the multinational energy and pharmaceutical companies. Bill Gates has been in number 11 assisting the incompetent Reeves in the plan.

This plan is already in Parliament.

            https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-10163/

It is a destruction of the common land held by the Crown Estate for all of us, such as access to our beaches and foreshores, and national ownership of mineral resources on the seabed.

We need to wake up and get our representatives on board to challenge this heinous piece of legislation which most people don’t recognise is a threat to our national autonomy.

        Pears Morgaine.

You know fine well he’s a Neo-Nazi dictator in the domestic sense – but a US compliant puppet otherwise – as are many Gulf Regimes beholden to the US and UK.

However many Western leaders (not all), including Scholz, Starmer, Macron, love their Neo-Nazi’s – as do the Danes.

A member of Ukraine’s ultra-nationalist Azov unit and convicted war criminal Dmitry Kanuper received a standing ovation during a conference at the Danish parliament. Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, and parliamentary speaker Soren Gade attended the event, which took place on February 19.

        • Pears Morgaine

I’ve explained no end of times that Zelensky’s party is left of centre and a member of a trans-European alliance of Liberal parties that includes the UK’s Liberal Democrats. An odd definition of Neo-Nazi.

To my knowledge Dmitry Kanuper has only been found guilty of war crimes in absentia by a Russian kangaroo court in Donetsk.

The Russian language is not banned in Ukraine although the Ukrainian language is promoted as the language for officialdom. The law was passed by outgoing president Poroshenko and opposed by Zelensky who mainly speaks Russian in public; or at least used to.

From what I can gather about 28% of Ukraine’s arable land is in foreign ownership, I’ve not been able to find any figures for the UK but 20% of Russian farmland is in foreign hands.

Putin has demonstrated his commitment to peace with the biggest drone attack of the war. Once again targets were mainly civilian. I suppose since his glide bombs and other ‘wonder weapons’ have failed to terrorize the civilian population or freeze them out by destroying the energy grid then the next logical step is starvation with attacks on food production. He needs to read up on the Siege of Leningrad.

          • zoot

heartening to see you are suddenly disturbed by the idea of civilians being bombed and potentially starved after your 16-month silence on what the West has done to Gaza. have you suddenly discovered a heart, or is this something else?

Zelensky btw makes your man Starmer look left of centre.

he has banned 12 opposition parties including all the left-wing ones but none of the right-wing or far-right ones, he has closed 3 independent TV statioins, put opposition politicians under house arrest, persecuted religious leaders, introduced Law 5371 which strips back labour protections, denied workers the right to unionize and bargain and auctioned off state land, industry and utilities to international vulture capitalists and of course aligns himself with the West’s genocide of women and children in Palestine.

          • glenn_nl

Pears, your mistake is that you judge from names when you better judge from actions. See my comment at 5:48pm on 22 Feb.

If there were true democracy in Ukraine, then Western part would stand up and defend the Eastern part in their rights. Namely, the right of ALL the people to be represented in government. That would end in autonomy for Donbas, within Ukraine, and Kiev would be the government for multi-cultural, multi-ethnic nation. No problem to legalise more than 1 language as State Language. Many countries do so.

Instead, they banned them and later announced military action to bomb them into submission. The Western Ukrainians supported this, and donated money, and sent people to kill their compatriots in the East.
It’s not democracy, it’s ugly nazi military dictatorship. The aim is monoethnic nation.

Quite on topic, Donald & Elon just fired Charlie Brown, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

For “one Palestine from river to sea” you can use e.g. a slice of watermelon in the shape of the whole country. For the right of return, you can use the PFLP’s symbol with the arrow.

But is there a symbol that means both?

So the genocide committing Zionists, have refused to release over 600 Palestinian prisoners – most held without charge – and probably all civilians who have been tortured – and more than likely they’ll also be emaciated – the Zionists excuse, for not releasing these utterly oppressed and illegally held civilians, is that Hamas has broke the ceasefire.

As could have been predicted, several Israeli fighter jets, and many hostile drones have been defiantly flying over the grieving crowd. Despite these painful circumstances, no doubt we’ll soon get a full report, live from Craig. It can be costly, but nothing beats live reporting.

      CM tweets:

      Today, Feb 23

“I have been taking a couple of quiet weeks at home to recover from the physical, mental and emotional toll of my four months in Israel devastated Lebanon.
I was invited to Nasrallah’s funeral today but did not see that I would be adding anything useful.”

      Feb 18

“I have now returned to Edinburgh from Lebanon. I shall continue to travel and write about the struggle for freedom and equality all over the world, but based again in Scotland.
Where regaining the freedom of Scotland will remain my first priority.”

We’re gonna miss his reporting very much, but I guess he still has plenty of unreleased material. Post production is a delicate process, so let’s be patient.
Elon must be very happy to see even the most resolute advocates of Palestine end up funding his ‘social media’ network. Takes all kinds…

On-topic: the US may be about to leave the UN.

Disengaging Entirely From the United Nations Debacle (DEFUND) Act

Note that this proposal includes the repeal of the UNHQ Agreement Act, which allowed the UN to establish an extra-territorial district in New York. So the idea here is not for the US to leave the UN but still to permit the SC and GA to operate in NYC without US participation. It’s essentially to tell all the diplomats, officials, administrative staff, interpreters, etc., that they can eff off to Switzerland.

One question is whether the US if it left the UN would leave the IMF and World Bank too.

While it’s about it, it could also leave the Bank of International Settlements.

And please can they stop the Fulbright program right away. What is it but compradore feed?

For full lolz, it could just stop having any embassies anywhere. Or perhaps I’m being too optimistic.

Zionism is an evil that must be crushed.

“Canadian writer/activist Yves Engler is spending another night locked up as a political prisoner at the Bordeaux jail in Montreal for the crime of tweeting against Zionism.”

On the evils of Zionism – here Steve Bannon (remember him) gives a Nazi salute.

“I’m proud to stand with the state of Israel. That’s why I’m proud to be a Christian Zionist.” – Steve Bannon”

Already, the UK taxpayer has shelled out at least £18 million pounds – for two consecutive English governments Sunak’s and Starmer’s, spy flight over Gaza from Cyprus – to send back targeting info to the Zionists who are committing genocide to bomb and kill civilians in Palestine.

Meanwhile the UK is on its knees, with the cost-of-living crise getting worse – and the cost of energy going through the roof – poverty and homelessness are widespread – and public services have been deeply cut with more to come – add in that people are disillusioned with politics, and lying politicians – and Britain look ripe for a widespread uprising.

Our host was right about Israeli’s in Lebanon.

Israeli journalist has a free hand to wander around inside Lebanese military complexes.

“Israeli journalist films inside Syrian military bases for Channel 12, even he was surprised that he was allowed to do this.

Israeli journalist Itay Anghel filmed an episode for Israel’s Channel 12 while moving through Syria and its military bases. He said “I cannot believe myself as an Israeli that I can walk around here”, He showcased images of “secret Syrian facilities hidden for years” and stated, “Everything here is available; I can even take the warheads of the missiles.”

The upcoming episode of “The Truth,” titled “Welcome to Syria,” will air tomorrow on Israel’s Channel 12. Anghel reported from the heart of Damascus exploring abandoned Syrian military bases and Iranian command centers.”
