My previous article demonstrated how the argument – now used against Mahmoud Khalil – that the First Amendment only applies to US citizens, was also employed by the Biden administration in extradition proceedings against Julian Assange.
It surprises me how very often the Assange case proves revealing of the internal workings of power in the USA.
When the CIA wished to bug Julian Assange on Ecuadorean diplomatic premises in London, and to look into the possibility of kidnapping or murdering him there, they decided to operate through a cutout for such a diplomatically fraught move.
That CIA cutout was Sheldon Adelson, multi-billionaire late husband of Miriam Adelson. Adelson’s fortune had come from a Las Vegas casino and property empire.
You are probably aware this is not, in general, the most respectable and free-from-organised-crime area of economic activity.

There is a lazy stereotype that the control over crime in Las Vegas lies with the Italian mafia.
In fact from the days of Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky, Las Vegas organised crime has had close ties to Israel from its very establishment as a state, and in recent times Israeli mobster gangs have controlled narcotic distribution in Las Vegas.
Allow me to point out that the first of those two links is to the Jewish publication The Tablet, and the second is to an American Jewish magazine called Forward, and not the British far-right publication of the same name.
Adelson hired a private security company named UC Global, headed by a former Spanish marine named David Morales, to conduct the illegal surveillance for the CIA. As one of subjects of the illegal surveillance, I gave evidence last year to the court case in Madrid in which David Morales, head of UC Global, is criminally charged.
This case seems to ramble on forever, but last week there was a new development as David Morales was charged with forging documents in the case, for which a new trial is opening. He allegedly fabricated emails from the Ecuadorean Ambassador commissioning the spying.
The CIA commissioned the activity from Adelson during the first Trump presidency, but notably the Biden administration condoned this and defended it during the Assange extradition proceedings.
It is yet a further example of the meaningless nature of democracy in uniparty America, of the power and reach of the ultra-wealthy, and of the fascist links between big business and secret state agencies.

The problem, as I see it, is that there are no ‘proper jobs’ anymore. What we have now is glorified slave labour with, for example, zero hour contracts, menial work in american style takeaways or the purgatory of call centres. There are few jobs that the average joe could build his life on, something to pay the mortgage and provide security for later in life.
The other problem is that the vast majority of the inhabitants of Westminster have never had a proper job in their life so have no idea what working for a living actually involves. How can these wasters ever come up with any ideas that will help workers. All they do is help bankers and other crooks increase the riches of the already wealthy.
There is something very wrong when your solution to youth unemployment is to push youngsters into the armed forces. Particularly a wokified, demoralised military that would struggle with a wet paper bag.
Why isn’t the government pushing british farming, manufacturing, engineering, medical even the building industry. All strategically important sectors that should be overwhelmingly home grown. China and Russia understands the importance of strategic industries. The West doesn’t.

Because all of those, apart from medicine and some types of engineering, are not jobs for which you need a degree, and with the education system telling students that they have failed if they haven’t got good enough exam results to go to university and need to work in a trade, or, heaven forfend! farming, such careers are very much seen as second class. All the brightest and the best students are told that they can “better themselves” by getting a degree (and, of course, getting themselves into a debt that they will be saddled with for many decades) and not be a farmer, work in manufacturing or on the tools in engineering or in the construction industry like their parents. Then, when their expensive degree doesn’t actually improve their employment prospects because it is in media studies from the University of Nowhere, they , too, can feel the sting of failure. A nation of failures with little self-respect, so much easier to govern.

Some thoughts – additonal to the fact that Hodges as military affairs are concerned appears to have no competence at all. Judging by his public statements.
I doubt that there truly is the inclination to get destroyed in a war.
If Pentagon has by now made a more or less accurate assessment of comparison of military strengths vis-à-vis Russia so will the Europeans.
Which means that the current budgetary onslaught – in Germany at least – is the biggest public heist since 1945. Robbing the people of their remaining savings based on the propaganda lies of threat from the east.
They have zero evidence. The little they have presented since one year ago when these ludicrous lies over Russia wanting to got to war – now with “us” too – have no substance.
I assume the bell rang with the ridiculous claims from January 2024 by European secret intelligence and March 9 articles in the NYT and CNN about Russian alleged plans to nuke Ukraine in fall 2022. Those were like the starting signals. And since this lie PR has been slowly building up. And this will be going on for many years to come.
But if you were to demand the evidence they would hide behind “national security”. As Noam Chomsky once pointed out – national security never had to do anything with the security of a nation.
The new Merz government at least in those offices where the genuine military intelligence is located will be very much aware of this.
So this lack of accountability while invoking secrecy of sources and evidence was the same trick they pulled off which got Assenge almost killed, established those black sites, a matter which got Craig fired if I am not mistaken, or 15k people killed by drones. And countless other war crimes. The same criminal dishonesty that brought us the war on terror is now applied by oh-so-humanitarian-Europe to destroy its own civil society.
It is truly astonishing and shocking that not a single legacy medium understands it. At least 10-15 years ago there was some insight and wisdom. But even though we now can observe the identical pattern they fail – for whatever reasons – to identify and call out the lies.
What you will have eventually is no war with Russia. The generation that has to go to war has no inclination to do so. One of the achievements of a progressive cultural upbringing since the 1980s in Europe (and I assume in the US too) is the fact that war has been recognized as an alien act and under any circumstances to not to be participated in.
Of course I can be wrong. And I do not know what will be in 10-15 years if a newly indoctrinated generation has come to age.
But meanwhile Europe will engage into ill-fated military developments, shelving diificult military projects, remain quiet over the fact that they eventually cannot and will not build the army they openly blab about but still push the lies in order to redistribute the remaining wealth to the upper echelons until the next financial crisis will hit and this time knock us out.
None of it having anything to do with Russia or China for that matter.

p.s. What I personally find appalling as a German citizen is the fact that by now almost nobody acknowledges the right for aslyum – regardless of the reasons! In all the media frenzy there is almost no coverage of the labour unions fighting companies. The Amazon strikes were miniscule in the news. I intend not to play out one against the other but there is a dark truth behind this.
Just on example, slaughter-houses. Who is killing the animals and preparing their meat for us?
And this is true for any aspect of daily routines. Mail delivery, groceries, social care. They take place in the shadows. Without this class system our societies would break down. I know everyone is aware of this. But almost nobody who may be heard articulates it.
Granted, Hedges is one of the strongest voices pointing at this of course. But as an interviewer he has to somehow correspond with his counterpart´s views. Otherwise you won´t have a good interview. This is also why the underlying ideological contradictions are not being brought up in – as I think – the necessary manner.
The colleges hit by Trump are elite institutions with insane tuition fees. This is a universe far away for 90% of the US population. Compared to the rich staffs of universities most Americans can only dream of a life as comfortable as that.

I remember a visit to Manhattan more than 20 years ago. In Brighton Beach we went to this burger place. Staff was from NY State NOT Manhattan. This was a few years after 9/11, so the events still very vivid in the media. When it came up in the conversation with the staff they just said, well you know may be it was good for them to get hit by that terror attack. Meaning of course the millionaire class of Manhattan. Of course it was the class of this burger place – not those living in Manhattan – that would end up fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The issue here is that the author of this essay has zero understanding of what manufacture of consent as of Herman/Chomsky was all about. He speaks about the prominence of psychology as the major means to pull off the manipulation of Team Obama via social media.
What he does not understand that you only wield as much power in the media as your ownership of it allows you.

Manufacturing Consent was all about the fact that ownership = money = capitalism – is the major factor here. Your psychological tricks are meaningless if you have a minor outlet which is hardly funded and while 99% of your rivals are spreading opposing views.
