David Hare’s witty portrait of an unlikely hero, based on the memoir by Craig Murray. Broadcast on 20 February 2010 on BBC Radio 4, starring David Tennant as Murray.
Craig is proud to be sent as Ambassador to Uzbekistan, eager to work hard and also eager for fun. The combination takes him on a dangerous course both professionally and personally, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.

David Tennant is better looking.
Big fan: Craig Murray, Dr. Who, David Tennant. Same with my daughter. It all works out in the end…

Just found time to listen to this in its entirety. Marvellous stuff, well written and performed.
Superbly done and so necessary that it reach a wider audience.
Good play – a “warts and all” view of a hero..
Heroic truth-tellers don’t have to be paragons of virtue – none of us are. It takes all the more courage to speak out when one KNOWS that one’s personal flaws will be exposed by those seeking to hide their own dirty deeds.
Thank you Craig Murray. Every truth-teller helps redeem humanity.
“… and the stakes couldn’t be higher.”
Now our diplomacy and military leaders flirt with WWIII, so the stakes may be even higher.
what a shame Karimov didn’t linger on for several years as a pain wracked, drooling half wit, paralysed, but still aware, being treated like shit by sadistic staff, reviled by all, contemplating being boiled alive.
