Apologies for posting this insignificant request during the interesting times in which we live, but my search engine skills have deserted me and so I need help finding a link.

I’m looking for an article by an American journalist or blogger whose name I’ve forgotten. He portrays himself as a kind of Runyonesque private eye – the graphic he uses has him wearing a fedora or similar hat (it may or may not be his real image).

The article in question is concerned with banking deregulation in South American countries prior to the 2008 global collapse. The deregulation is said to be at the behest of the USA’s finance industry looking to expand the market for its toxic derivatives. The interesting thing about the article is that it claims there’s evidence that EU trade negotiators pressurised the unwilling countries to deregulate and that the negotiators were prominent British politicians, Peter Mandelson being one if I remember correctly.

The article was probably on the journalists blogsite or maybe on a site like Moon of Alabama (I’ve searched there but can’t find it).

Does any of the above jog anyone’s memory? I’d be grateful for a link if it does.

      Thanks,
      Mart
