Project Ukraine – leading to loss of democracy – in Romania
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6DJLCyXGwkRecently there were presidential elections in Romania, a right wing person who likes Russia and wants the war in Ukraine to end, won the first round.
The E.U./Romania decided to cancel the second round, now they have arrested the first round winner, whilst he was on his way to put his papers in, for the new elections.
Romania is very keen to support Ukraine, via NATO.
But not all Romanians – want this future, of trying to bring down Russia.michael norton
This smacks of a desperation of the “holders” of the status quo of the E.U.
If we have been supporting Ukraine because we support Democracy, should we not support Democracy in the countries of the E.U.?michael norton

“However, shortly after news of the searches spread, Georgescu published a Facebook post talking about sabotage: “They are trying to invent evidence to justify stealing the elections and doing everything to block my new presidential candidacy.” The candidate concluded his social invective harshly: “We live in communism; there is nothing free or legal in what is happening. I will not give up.” New elections are expected on May 4, with a runoff scheduled for May 18.”

Democracy, is is some countries, slipping away.michael norton

If only something like, 1% or 2% of greenery on Earth, is phytoplankton, yet they produce about 50% of Oxygen, I am assuming phytoplankton take in a lot of Carbon dioxide, which mostly enters the shallow seas from the air.
A lot of plankton is Archaea not Bacteria. Archaea do photosynthesis differently.
I heard, a few years ago, that more than half of the living mass in the oceans, is Archaea.michael norton
Ethnic/religious cleansing is happening in Syria

The Alawite people are being slaughtered by the new regime.
The new regime, is being described as the government of Syria.
They only hold about one quarter of Syria and they have not been elected.ET
It was reported in the guardian as “More than 1,000 people, including 745 civilians, were killed in the two days of clashes between Syrian security forces and fighters loyal to the former Assad regime and ensuing revenge killings, a war monitor has said…”
” 745 civilians were killed mostly execution-style, while 125 Syrian security forces and 148 Assad loyalists were killed”michael norton

It would appear that fusion reactors are beginning to edge closer to the goal of very low cost energy generation.

Fat Jon, I looked at the video, it looks unbelievably complex.

There are still enormous hurdles to overcome. They’re using large amounts of energy to power the magnetic field to contain the plasma and also to heat and pressurise the fuel.
When all the energy requirements are summed up they haven’t got anywhere near producing enough energy to meet the power consumption.
They also have issues containing and collecting the heat along with countering the deterioration of the containment chamber materials due to neutrons released. Neutrons are electrically neutral and can’t be affected by the magnetic fields.Despite such optimistic pieces such as the one you posted they’re a looooong way from commercial relevance.

Cheap, simple, safe, long term nuclear power without dependence on uranium was solved over half a century ago:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molten_Salt_Reactor_Experiment
Cancelled in about 1971.
Clark
Sacked:
“Alvin, if you’re so concerned about reactor safety, we think it’s time you left atomic power.”
For political, not engineering reasons.

Britain had nearly developed one in the 1960s. It could have cooked away the stockpile of plutonium that has instead required its own branch of the police force ever since:

But could the power needed for the magnetism and plasma heating come from some form of solar generator? That way, at least the running costs might be lower.
I see this as a small step in the right direction, and is a far better use of resources than building seemingly endless lines of military equipment.
Clark
China’s developing it, of course:

Fat John, I’m quite into nuclear tech. I took an interest after the Fukushima meltdowns, and read avidly for a few years. There are kids do fusion in their parents’ garages. Seriously; you can find their vids on YouTube. Of course they put far more energy in than they get out, just like these Big Science projects, which are done mainly to attract investment money.
The US Navy is probably sitting on “cold fusion”, now known as “Low Energy Nuclear Reactions”; certainly they somehow manage to hoover up all the research:

There are zero remaining engineering barriers to emissions-free electricity. All the hurdles are political. Generation? Wind turbines; cheap as chips. Transmission? HVDC. Intermittency? Phase-change heat storage.
The reason certain parties convince us we need fossil fuel is that liquid fuel is by far the best for warfare. It’s what they fight for and what they fight with, just like Mad Max.

It has been a long time coming but at Christmas Flamanville Three came on line.
“France connected its most powerful nuclear power reactor to the French national electricity grid in what leaders hailed as a landmark moment despite years of delays and technical setbacks.
The Flamanville 3 European Pressurized Reactor in Normandy has started providing electricity to French homes”
https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20241221-france-s-most-powerful-nuclear-reactor-finally-comes-on-streamAlthough costing multiple times what the estimate was, and taking several more years than expected, the European Reactor is working, which is good news because this is what Hinkley point C is based on, although Point C will be a double.
The French have proved that Nuclear power isn’t that easy to set up and run, if you want it done quite safely.
The French probably know more about it, than most.michael norton
Possibly, because of the election of Donald Trump, the economics of Net Zero will crash the U.K. Economy.
Currently the U.K. Economy is flat or actually in recession, we are already freeing pensioners, punishing farmers, with new edicts every few weeks, Grangemouth is about to shut, after 100 years, we are de-industrialising at an astonishingly rapid pace.
Kemi has now said Net Zero is not believable.
Even the U.K. government, are now having doubts?

We have the highest electricity prices in Europe, we are completely up the creek without a paddle.michael norton
Today Heathrow, the largest airport in Europe is shut.
problem, electrical sub-station fire.
back-up facilities, also on fire.
Result massive economic loss for days or weeks to come.
Five hundred families evacuated.
About five thousand homes/businesses with no electricity.
Net Zero.
Part of the economic plan is to build new runways at several airports but especially Heathrow, to increase air journeys and grow our economy.
Reliable, 24/7 electrical supply is going to be needed.
Ed Milliband has been put up to explain the situation.
They want him to resign, then they can start rowing back on Net Zero.Clark
Kemi Badenoch is my MP. She supports Israel’s genocide of the Palestinians; I have a reply from her saying as much. She is a warmonger.
You argue against war, Michael, yet consistently support warmongers.
Here’s another of those questions you dare not answer. If, as you claim, “the economics of Net Zero will crash the U.K. Economy”, why did the Scandinavian countries not go bankrupt decades ago?
Your thinking is full of easily demonstrable contradictions, yet you refuse to reconsider.

Heathrow disruption
Quote BBC
“A Met spokesperson said its Counter Terrorism Command was leading the investigation due to “the location of the substation and the impact this incident has had on critical national infrastructure”.
They added the command has the “specialist resources and capabilities” to progress the investigation “at pace to minimise disruption and identify the cause”.
My guess it will have been the Russians.
Only a day ago Sir keir Rodney Starmer was riding in a nuclear powered, (with his minister of Defence)
nuclear armed submarine, with that submarine – on duty.
He is claiming that we are going to go ahead with a new nuclear deterrence suit.
Meaning new submarines.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/cwyd0pkelqnoHe really is a warmonger.
michael norton
Clark, I did not know Kemi was a warmonger. However many, if not most Members of Parliament seem to be hyped up for nuclear war with Russia, I do not know why they are so keen on total destruction.
Ed Milliband wants us to produced the bulk of our electricity by renewable means in just four years time.Ed is going to need a lot of back-up, methods of making electricity.
michael norton
Clark, yes you are correct, I am contradicted.
I do change my mind as the facts, seem to change.
I am very concerned for the living environment, that is why I have been physically volunteering, outdoors, for thirty years.
However, I am not convinced by Ed Milliband and his Net Zero stuff. i do not imagine that the end of the world will happen, because more Carbon enters our Atmosphere, I expect one day, it will level off.
I doubt making the U.K. the leader of the world in Net Zero, will bankrupt the U.k. but will make almost no impression, in any other lands. yes, the Scandinavian lands, have mostly been doing well.
they all have very small populations.
They all have fantastic mineral resources.
they have until recently been homogeneous.
Russia, has everything you could wish for in a land, except they are short of people.
Yes, we should gently move away from Coal, oil and North Sea Gas but to rush this move, would be to implode the British economy, which would have almost, no effect on the climate.
We should strike an intelligent pose, take our time, do things in an economical fashion, do not let, nonsense, pervade our space.
There is plenty of time to respond to any climate change. it will not wipe humanity from the face of the earth.
however, we could wipe ourselves from the face of the earth, with World War Three.Fat Jon
Michael, if the rumours are correct and the lack of backup generators was because they would be diesel powered, and this was seen as anti-net zero; then your comments concerning the rush to green technology come what may, are very true.
Also, the footage of Heathrow terminal buildings showed not a single solar panel (that I could see). They bleat about having a third runway for tens of billions of ££, but don’t seem to spend anything on alternative generation.
