AG, thank you again for covering this. I am still unable to find sufficient time to understand it in detail, but do please keep up the good work, for the sake of unseen readers, those who do not comment, and to preserve the record.

I wasn’t sure which thread to post this in so I picked this one. The Irish Times has a piece today on a Russian spy ship in “Irish controlled waters” ie. Ireland’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
EEZ waters are not territorial waters but considered international waters for the purposes on ship traversal. So, they are NOT Irish controlled waters and Russia has every right to be in international waters. Reminds me of the same headlines about China entering Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ), which takes in a fair chunk of the China mainland and isn’t recognised by international law. More nonsense headlines.

Later in the piece they say:

“The ship is travelling through the Irish EEZ and has not entered Irish territorial waters, which extend about 12 nautical miles (22km) out to sea.”

Just thought I’d share 😄 the inane russiaphobia.

My favorite Russian entertainment portal Pikabu was banned by the Latvian authorities as a threat to national security.

On Pikabu, many ordinary people share their thoughts on their work, the problems of their city, on relationships between men and women, travel, news, humor and cats. Of course, there are also heated political debates. And recently there was a “wave” – soldiers posted photos of their awards from the war zone in Ukraine.

In general, a lot of information directly from people, for which I actually love this site. Just yesterday, I personally helped one user who lost her parcel from delivery to find a post by another user who had earlier published a post about finding it.

And now Latvia, a republic with a population approximately equal to the population of my city, has its own censorship council NEPLP and bans Pikabu with the wording “Such information in the Latvian information space may create a false perception of world events, negatively affect the coexistence of various groups in society and create a threat to the national security of Latvia”.

OMG, Pikabu discovered that the population of Latvia is 1.8 million, and users of Pikabu are 10 million. On knowing the news about the ban, Pikabu is going to visit Latvia’s government website, just to see the news with their own eyes.
I suppose we will soon know about evil Russian hackers attacking Latvia’s sovereign something.
