Cheers, Neil 🙂 Congratulations, albeit belated, for your birthday!
Did you know that Yuri Gagarin made his flight exactly on Cosmonautics Day? Isn’t it a wonderful coincidence? 🙂

btw, for ET, Jack and the story with the grinders: this manner of Western journalism to make stories where there were none initially, gives scope for humor. I’ll adopt one joke for you:
“The word Vladimir has 8 letters, the word Donald has 6 letters. 8-6=2, which is how many eyes Hitler had. Just think about it!”

The fucked up “logic” of Western journalists, their manner of drawing conclusions, is ridiculed with jokes like this one:
“Vegans do not eat cattle meat, but eat grass.
Cattle eat grass, just like vegans.
      Vegans are cattle.
Non-vegans and meat eaters eat cattle meat.
      So they can eat vegans.”

      Funny, I find it 🙂

I have nothing to do with religion, but I bring here information relevant to the topic of Ukraine, the persecution of the church.

For those who didn’t follow the events:
Russia and Ukraine had not only one state and were one people, but also had a common Christian Orthodox Church. Poroshenko, when he was the president, asked for a separate tomos from Konstantinopol, so he divided the church in two, organizing its own patriarchate. Most believers and priests did not accept the new rules, calling it a schism. The Ukrainian authorities began persecuting the “old” church.

Today’s article refers to Archpriest Balashov and Vladimir Legoida from the Synodal Department for Church-Society Relations, who express much concern about Ukraine’s plan:
the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine has created a commission to inspect the relics of the saints in the caves of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra monastery; the results of the inspection will be classified. The Ukrainian state is also trying to evict the monks of the oldest Russian monastery. The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine terminated the lease agreement, and the monks were required to leave the Lavra in March 2023.

        More background into the situation:
The state of Ukraine have organized the largest wave of persecution in the country’s modern history. The target is the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) of the Moscow Patriarchate, the largest community of believers in the country. Local authorities in various regions of Ukraine have decided to ban the UOC, under the pretext of its ties to Russia. The SBU began to open criminal cases against the clergy. Bishops and priests in churches and monasteries are being searched for evidence of “anti-Ukrainian activities.” Some members of the clergy have been convicted by Ukrainian courts, and many are under arrest. Hundreds of Orthodox churches of the UOC have been forcibly seized by Ukrainian schismatics with the support of local authorities, people are subjected to physical violence.
In September 2024, a law adopted by the Ukrainian parliament and signed by Zelensky came into force. It allowes to ban the UOC.

            Interesting

            Vance’s cousin a pro-Kiev mercenary – Le Figaro
Nate Vance reportedly served as a fighter in a Ukrainian military unit founded by a far-right nationalist

Nate Vance fought in the ‘Da Vinci Wolves’ battalion, a Ukrainian unit originally formed as a militia of far-right nationalists from the local Right Sector group and named after its late founder, Dmitry ‘Da Vinci’ Kotsubailo, the French daily reported on Sunday.

Speaking about books I remember reading “Hillybilly Elegy” a couple of years ago (a book about the social breakdown of rural america), little did I know that JD Vance wrote it.

In other news, complate bonkers reasoning from Germany: Germany do not seek a peace in Ukraine for atleast 5 years

He also added that if the war in Ukraine ends by 2029-2030, russia will be able to become a threat to Europe more quickly. This will allow russia to shift its energy and efforts to Europe, and not just Ukraine.

How could these people not realze that the longer the war goes on, the greater the risk that it will spread? Their reasoning is completely backwards.

Thank you very much, ET! This is so kind of you.
I’ll bring news that has been widely discussed since yesterday – Russian troops passed 15 km inside a gas pipeline (Zelensky recently very conveniently refused transit, so the pipe was empty), and got behind the Ukrainians near Sudzha. Now a “cauldron” is being formed there, I think it’s some kind of military term.

The Internet is full of jokes about pipelines, about the caliber of the Nord Stream pipes capable of passing an Armata tank, about how it would be better for Europeans to buy gas and keep the pipes full.
I’ll link the story on Pikabu

Jack, re. the statement of the head of German intelligence about the desire to continue the war until 2030.
Yesterday, Yulia Tymoshenko’s reaction to this was reported. She literally asked if it was true that Europe is using Ukraine to exhaust Russia. She commented that “what the Ukrainians didn’t want to believe, but it turns out to be true”.
I think Tymoshenko just made a strong bid for American support to become the next president of Ukraine.

Yes I read her statement too, is this really news to her, that the west use Ukraine to weaken Russia? If the west really cared for ukrainian lives they would do everything to stop the war ergo obviously ukrainian lives is not the main priority for the west.

Somewhat related, Arestovych embraced the war to get Ukraine into Nato:

OA: I don’t think so. For me, the price for Ukraine to get into Nato is a big war with Russia, as I said in 2019, openly, it was in our media. I think the price for the West to get Ukraine inside Nato is a big war with Russia and the collective West are not ready to pay this price. This is a problem. And for me it’s completely unrealistic for Ukraine to even hope to be a part of the European Union or Nato. It’s impossible in this real-life situation.

They want the war to spread. To what extent depends on the particular party/company.
Constant state of emergency is the only “plan” they have. Otherwise they would have to come up with ideas that really need work in order to be devised and which would not be in the interest of their sponsors. Like cooperation with Russia and China.
